The activity of survival kinases such as Akt is known to be highly up-regulated in prostate cancer, which correlates with the high abundance of DNMTs in prostate cancer cells, as Akt is involved in the stabilization of DNMT1, and possibly other DNMTs, via site-specific phosphorylation on Ser/Thr residues. Here, DNMT1 is linked to Familial prostate cancer.
