Interestingly in this context, in our previous studies on the potential role of afamin as a biomarker for ovarian cancer we found only moderately decreased afamin plasma concentrations [8–10], e.g. median afamin plasma concentrations were 41 mg/dL in 215 patients with ovarian cancer [10] as compared to the rather low afamin concentrations we report for inflammatory disorders in the present study. Here, AFM is linked to ovarian carcinoma.
