Examples include fatty acid synthase (FASN), a metabolic oncogene [20], [21], and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA reductase (HMGCR), the rate-limiting step in cholesterol biosynthesis; both proteins have been reported to be involved in the development and progression of prostate cancer [20], [22]–[24].
