In the PROVE IT–TIMI 22 (Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy–Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction 22) trial, atorvastatin (80 mg/day) reduced both LDL and CRP levels at 30 days and at 4 months in patients with acute coronary syndrome, and the early benefit of statins was correlated with the reduction in CRP rather than in LDL levels [27]. Here, CRP is linked to acute coronary syndrome.
