An epigenome-wide association study (EWAS) of DNA methylation profiles of purified CD14+ monocytes (an immune effector cell type relevant to T1D pathogenesis) from 15 pairs of monozygous twins discordant for T1D revealed 132 CpG sites that were differentially methylated in accordance with T1D status [90]. The gene discussed is CD14; the disease is type 1 diabetes mellitus.
