ERF and infection: Most genes in the ERF TF family are highly responsive to biotic and abiotic stresses (reviewed by Riechmann and Meyerowitz [55], Nakano et al. [46]) and at least some members of this family mediate responses to pathogen infection with roles in plant innate immunity, such as ERF1, ERF2, ERF4, ERF14 and ORA59 [36], [46] and abiotic stresses such as dehydration, salt and cold stress [13], [46], [49], [65].
