This data are underscored by recent studies which suggest that mutations in a subset of epigenetic regulators, including TET2 (Ten eleven Translocation protein 2), ASXL1 (Additional Sex Combs protein 1) and DNA methyl transferase 3a (DNMT3a)[11-14], are associated with poor overall survival of AML patients; therefore, defining a new subset of high-risk leukemia that is in need of novel, mechanism-based therapies. Here, TET2 is linked to acute myeloid leukemia.
