Based on single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array copy number analysis of 732 samples, Dutt et al. report that the region of chromosome segment 8p11–12 containing FGFR1 is somatically amplified in 21% of lung squamous cell cancers as compared to 3.4% of lung adenocarcinomas (57). The gene discussed is FGFR1; the disease is squamous cell lung carcinoma.
