Further, explorations of ENCODE database annotations (HaploReg v2, http://www.broadinstitute.org/mammals/haploreg/haploreg.php and RegulomeDB, http://regulome.stanford.edu/index) for regulatory effects, revealed that the variant rs2242449, would affect the regulatory motifs, GATA and TATA, as well as binding of ZNF263 protein in T-REx-HEK293 cell lines (Figure S1). At this point, the effects in neuronal cells are unknown and our association results suggest no substantial regulatory effect for rs2242449 in brain cells, at least in terms of schizophrenia manifestation. This evidence concerns the gene ZNF263 and schizophrenia.
