The benchmark set includes several proteins (40 of 243, 17%) that occur multiple times, as they are involved in multiple diseases [e.g. lamin A/C (LMNA) is associated with all the three diseases, cardiomyopathy (19), Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (20) and muscular dystrophy (21)]; additionally, some diseases are also associated with multiple proteins [e.g. diabetes is associated with 12 distinct proteins (Table 1)]. This evidence concerns the gene LMNA and cardiomyopathy.
