Several clinical studies have shown that elevated expression of the epithelial adhesion molecule, E-cadherin, is associated with favorable survival in colon and esophageal cancers, whereas it is likewise documented that EMT in chemo- and radio-resistant lung and pancreatic cancer cells correlated with a decreased expression of E-cadherin and an increase in the expression of vimentin [13,14]. The gene discussed is CDH1; the disease is esophageal cancer.
