AMD patients often develop a pseudo fovea at a specific point in their eccentric retina, the so-called “preferred retinal locus” (PRL; Bäckman and Inde, 1979; Timberlake et al., 1987; Whittaker et al., 1988; Guez et al., 1993; Fletcher and Schuchard, 1997). The gene discussed is PRL; the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
