While the suppression of Sig1R expression in mice cardiomyocytes fails to alter any parameter of the native Nav1.5 current (Fontanilla et al., 2009), the Sig1R silencing in the highly aggressive MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell line results in a strong reduction in current density, suggesting that Sig1R controls Nav1.5 trafficking in cancer cells but not in healthy cardiac cells (Balasuriya et al., 2012).
