An increased expression of MMPs, particularly MMP-2 (gelatinase A; 72-kDa type IV collagenase) and MMP-9 (gelatinase B; 92-kDa type IV collagenase), has been correlated extensively with the malignancy of tumors and poor survival among patients, especially those with breast cancer [31, 32]. The gene discussed is MMP9; the disease is breast carcinoma.
