NK cells are recruited to the site of mycobacterial infection in the context ofpulmonary and extra-pulmonary tuberculosis [13,24] and also duringexperimental infection with M.tuberculosis and M. bovis BCG [10,25].NK cells have pleiotropic functions overlapping to some extent the capacities of CD4and CD8 T cells through their cytotoxic potential and their ability to producevarious cytokines and chemokines [26]. The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is extrapulmonary tuberculosis.
