Additional downregulated genes included those involved in the inhibition of apoptosis, such as the NFkB target gene BIRC3, the FAIM3 gene encoding the anti-apoptotic factor Toso, SENP1-, ALKBH8- and CARD6-encoding proteins associated with the promotion of cancer cell survival, and also the MYC gene, a key regulator of cell proliferation, which exhibited higher basal levels in the more JQ1-responsive leukaemias. The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is cancer.
