In human postmortem samples of prefrontal cortex of depressed subjects, there is a decrease in the expression of mTOR, as well as some of the downstream targets of this pathway, as p70S6 kinase (p70S6K), eIF4B, and its phosphorylated form, which suggests the impairment of the mTOR pathway in major depressive disorder (MDD) that would lead to a reduction in protein translation [247] (Table 2).
