We decided to not correct our results for multiple testing, since our hypotheses were stated a priori and based on previous evidence indicating a role of ADAM33 polymorphisms in pathophysiology of COPD and CVD, thus following Steiner’s advice: “If the primary outcomes have been specified beforehand, then correcting for multiplicity may be too conservative and should be avoided” [23]. This evidence concerns the gene ADAM33 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
