CD1D and neoplasm: The process of immunoediting in immunodeficient hosts allows the survival of malignant cell variants, which are “universally immunogenic,” as they express surface adhesion or co-stimulatory molecules (i.e., ICAM-1 or 2, LFA-1 or 3, CD1d, VLA-4, B7 etc.)that are essential for the development of anti-tumor immunity.
