FMO5 and diabetic cardiomyopathy: Previous studies have shown role of mitochondrial electron transport and NAD(P)H oxidase as a primary sources of ROS in diabetic cardiomyopathy, a major new finding of our study, however, is that there are also another discrete mitochondrial and non-mitochondrial enzymatic source of intracellular ROS that participate in the oxidative burst induced by diabetes in the heart.
