Although in this latter work, no association was found between inflammatory markers, such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and fibrinogen, neither with atherosclerosis, as evaluated by assessing intima-media thickness (IMT), and so the authors concluded that visfatin/Nampt is more likely not a surrogate marker of inflammation nor atherosclerosis. The gene discussed is NAMPT; the disease is atherosclerosis.
