Interestingly, Zhou et al. have recently reported that visfatin/Nampt promotes lipid accumulation mainly through excessive cholesterol uptake in RAW264.7 macrophages and in peritoneal macrophages isolated from ApoE knockout mice and accelerates the process of atherosclerosis mainly through modulating the expression of the macrophage scavenger receptor class A (SR-A) and CD36 [103] (Table 2). The gene discussed is NAMPT; the disease is atherosclerosis.
