These observations indicate that the antitumor activity of ω3-PUFAs is tightly linked to their ability to trigger autophagy and apoptosis and set the stage for an effective treatment of tumors possessing functional p53; however, since p53 is frequently mutated in human cancers, it remains unclear whether simultaneous induction of autophagy and apoptosis is a universal ω3-PUFA antitumor mechanism regardless of p53 status. Here, TP53 is linked to cancer.
