More sensitive markers of renal injury, such as urinary interleukin-18 (IL-18), neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG), kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1) blood NGAL, and cystatin C, have been studied, and their evolution has been linked to the subsequent development of AKI [30–39]. The gene discussed is LCN2; the disease is acute kidney injury.
