Tetherin or BST2 is interferon inducible type II membrane protein that interferes with the release of HIV-1 progeny virions from the surface of infected human T cells and also functions as an innate immune sensor of viral infection to promote inflammatory responses (Neil et al., 2008; Van Damme et al., 2008; Galao et al., 2012). This evidence concerns the gene BST2 and viral infectious disease.
