MYC and cancer: Many cellular genes identified at or downstream of the 75 HPV16 integration sites are cancer genes, such as MYC, ERBB2, FHIT, MECOM (EVI1) and BCAR4. The search for cancer genes, using different approaches including sequencing of whole cancer genomes, has identified until now more than 400 human genes that are mutated in different types of cancer [66] (www.sanger.ac.uk/genetics/CGP/Census/).
