GJA1 and Patent foramen ovale: The G60S missense mutation in Cx43 acts in a dominant negative way to cause oculodentodigital dysplasia, including various cardiac manifestations (patent foramen ovale, reduced cardiac function, a large decrease in Cx43 due to impaired trafficking to the intercalated disc, a small decrease in ventricular conduction velocity and a variety of ECG abnormalities, both brady- and tachyarrhythmias) (Flenniken et al., 2005; Kalcheva et al., 2007; Manias et al., 2008; Tuomi et al., 2011).
