However, there are two main findings present in all PPS studied (PKAN, PLA2G6-associated neurodegeneration – PLAN, neuroferittinopathy, mitochondrial membrane protein-associated neurodegeneration – MPAN): iron-laden pigmentation and spheroids with a predilection for pallidal involvement in PKAN [31,32▪] but a wider lesion distribution in the remaining syndromes [33,34▪▪,35▪]. Here, PLA2G6 is linked to popliteal pterygium syndrome.
