The authors argued that results demonstrate that SELENBP1 expression is not a marker of psychosis; however, the sample size was small and may not have sufficient power to detect a difference in the expression of SELENBP1. SELENBP1 is localized to chromosome 1q21, which has previously been identified as a susceptibility locus for schizophrenia (Brzustowicz et al., 2000), which indicates that the upregulation of SELENBP1 in psychotic disorders may be involved in the susceptibility to psychosis. This evidence concerns the gene SELENBP1 and psychotic disorder.
