In relation to biomarker investigations in other living tissues, a recent study has demonstrated that miR-382 was elevated in the olfactory epithelium taken from patients with schizophrenia (Mor et al., 2013), this is of significance as miR-382 regulates expression of fibroblast growth factor receptor-1 (FGFR1) that has been previously linked to schizophrenia (Jungerius et al., 2008). This evidence concerns the gene FGFR1 and schizophrenia.
