LMNA is encoding lamin A and lamin C by alternative splicing, while ZMPSTE24 is encoding the zinc metalloproteinase ZMPSTE24, which is necessary for the processing of prelamin A to mature lamin A. Therefore LMNA mutations are classified as primary laminopathies whereas ZMPSTE24 mutations are included in the group of the secondary laminopathies. Here, LMNA is linked to laminopathy.
