RICTOR and Glucose intolerance: In a study on pancreatic islet β-cell specific Rictor and phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) knockout mice (Gu et al., 2011) demonstrated that βPtenKO mice exhibit a 12-fold increase in AKT-T308 phosphorylation and increase in cell proliferation; rictor null mice on the other hand, were shown to exhibit reduction in β-cell mass, mild hyperglycemia, and glucose intolerance Gu et al. (2011).
