A study that transplanted human cardiac progenitor cells (hCPCs) into a mouse model of myocardial infarction (MI), found that hCPCs isolated following transplantation using laser capture micro-dissection, had significantly increased expression of growth factors, such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) and connective tissue growth factor in vivo[24]. This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and myocardial infarction.
