Since TB meningitis develops subsequent to hematogenous dissemination of bacteria [40], and the surface exposed PknD sensor is required for invading the BBB that protects the CNS from the systemic circulation [13], [14], [41], [42], we hypothesized that antibody-mediated humoral immunity against PknD could be protecting against brain dissemination in the PknD vaccinated animals. This evidence concerns the gene CTSK and meningeal tuberculosis.
