As to the uroprotective effect of curcumin, because it has been well noted that primary urothelial lining defects play an important role in chronic cystitis and bladder oversensitivity [17], curcumin may improve the energy status and restore the oxidant/antioxidant balance in urothelium through modulating the release of inflammatory endocoids, namely, TNFα and NO, which has been proved by Arafa using the cyclophosphamide haemorrhagic cystitis model [18]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is chronic cystitis.
