A search for other proteins that interact with CtBP led to the identification of C-terminal binding protein interacting protein (CtIP) [127], a protein that was later implicated in having a significant role in maintaining genome stability through its interaction with the early onset breast cancer gene, BRCA1 [35], indicating that CtBP could bind to a diverse array of factors with distinct and overlapping molecular functions. The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is breast cancer.
