Decreased PFC activation accompanied by comparable or even superior behavioral performance has previously been suggested to reflect higher processing efficiency, which has been reported in carriers of the (low-activity) COMT 158Met allele (Egan et al., 2001; Meyer-Lindenberg and Weinberger, 2006; Schott et al., 2006; Caldu et al., 2007) and in Parkinson's disease patients who received L-dopa (Mattay et al., 2002). The gene discussed is COMT; the disease is Parkinson disease.
