CD4 and colitis: Interestingly, a recent study using the TNBS-experimentally induced colitis model demonstrated that treatment with a mix of L. acidophilus and B. longum probiotics suppressed inflammatory destruction of the gut which was associated with the influx of γδ+ IELs, increased CD4+ Treg populations and IL-10 within the area and a corresponding down-regulation in CD4+ T effector cells and pro-inflammatory cytokines [87].
