When we exposed cells to hypoglycemia in the presence of increasing concentrations of VCD, we found that VCD concentrations as low as 75 nM potently blocked the elevation of GRP78 protein levels, and the amount of actin protein began to diminish under these conditions (Fig. 2B) (see Discussion section for an interpretation of the actin response).
