We also reported similar expression of host response genes in corneal ulcers of patients infected with either Aspergillus or Fusarium[6], indicating that there are common pathways that lead to neutrophil infiltration in fungal keratitis, most likely through activation of c-type lectins such as Dectin-1, which recognizes β-glucan on both pathogens [6], [26].
