MAPT and Cognitive impairment: It (1) exerts neuroprotective effects against neurotoxicity caused by intracerebroventricular infusion of amyloid-β (Aβ) [21, 22], (2) facilitates neurogenesis, such as neuron proliferation, neurite outgrowth, and synaptogenesis, through the increase of neurotrophic factors [23], and (3) improves cognitive impairment in rats receiving intracerebroventricular infusion of Aβ [21, 22] or expressing FTDP17 human P301L mutant tau [24].
