VEGFA and cancer: Several flavonoids actions have been explored as possible mechanisms able to explain their anticarcinogenic effects, such as inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) secretion, migration, invasion, and adhesion [29–33], as well as inhibition of the angiogenic process by regulating the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) [34–36], all factors required by cancer cells to acquire metastatic properties.
