IGF1 and retinopathy of prematurity: [2] Lipid emulsions are an important part of nutritional support; omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids have been shown to suppress inflammatory factors and contribute to antiangiogenic and neuroprotective mechanisms in the retina. [9]–[13] Early weight gain is an important marker of nutritional status, and poor postnatal weight gain has been associated with an increased risk of severe ROP. [14]–[17] Algorithms have been developed that employ postnatal weight gain and IGF levels to predict development of severe ROP. [18], [19].
