Doberman narcoleptic dogs bear a mutation in OX2R, and all genetically engineered rodents with either a deletion of hcrt, OX2R, or hcrt cells present behavioral arrests that resemble cataplexy, the hallmark of narcolepsy (Jones, 2003; Sakurai, 2007; Sehgal and Mignot, 2011). This evidence concerns the gene HCRT and narcolepsy.
