Boisvert et al. (1998) revealed an important role for the chemokine receptor CXCR2 in mediating monocyte recruitment into atherosclerotic lesions by showing a reduced lesion size and macrophage content in atherosclerosis-prone Ldlr−/− mice transplanted with Cxcr2-deficient bone marrow. Here, CXCR2 is linked to atherosclerosis.
