Elevated hsa-miR-20a-mediated suppression of the transcription factor E2F1 can also impair transcription (Brock et al., 2009), whereas potentiated targeting by mir-20a of the BMPR2 protein, a pathogenic hallmark of pulmonary hypertension may compete with BMPR2 regulation by the miR-17/92 cluster (Huang et al., 2012) which was also identified as changed in our PD patients data (log fold change: −1.16, p-value: 13.28). The gene discussed is E2F1; the disease is pulmonary arterial hypertension.
