NLRP3 and cryopyrin-associated periodic syndrome: This type of cell death may have wide significance in immune responses because it is mediated by NLRP3, a protein that senses not only pathogens but also danger-associated signals, and presumably contributes to neutrophil infiltration in urticarial rashes in CAPS or other diseases such as gout in which NLRP3 is proposed to contribute to the pathogenesis.
