GSTM1 and autoimmune hemolytic anemia: Subsequently, Karlsson et al described 5 CLL patients in an advanced stage with severe transfusion-dependent AIHA refractory to conventional therapy, including corticosteroids, rituximab and splenectomy, that were treated with subcutaneous (SC) or intravenous (IV) alemtuzumab at a dose of 30 mg three times weekly for a maximum of 12 weeks.76 After a median time of 5 weeks (range 4–7), all patients responded with a marked rise in hemoglobin (Hb) concentration: the mean Hb increased from 7.2 g/dl at baseline to 11.9 g/dl at the end of treatment.
