We next performed a murine inhalation model of cryptococcosis, widely regarded as the gold standard test for virulence assays of C. neoformans, to examine the roles of urate oxidase, HIU hydrolase, OHCU decarboxylase, allantoinase and allantoicase-ureidoglycolate hydrolase during infection of a mammalian host (Figure 7). The gene discussed is URAD; the disease is cryptococcosis.
