ADH1B and alcohol abuse: Pavanello and colleagues [35] have reported that although the telomere lengths of peripheral blood leukocytes in Italian alcohol abusers did not differ significantly among ADH1B genotypes, they were only about half those in normal controls; also, carriers of the less-active ADH1B genotype were more likely to be alcohol abusers, to have higher alcohol consumption, and to possess shorter telomeres.
