Not only galectin-3 can be used as a marker in squamous cell carcinomas, expression of galectin-7 seems to be significantly reduced in malignant cells of squamous epithelia of both ectodermal and endodermal origin, thus allowing use of galectin-7 as differentiation marker of epithelial malignancies [73]. The gene discussed is LGALS7; the disease is squamous cell carcinoma.
