Notably, increased internal pools of EGFR are a feature of oncogenic mutants of EGFR; we have recently shown that human non-small cell lung cancer cell lines harboring EGFR mutants with activating kinase domain mutations show increased levels of active EGFR within intracellular endocytic compartments when cultured without external EGF [40]. Here, EGFR is linked to non-small cell lung carcinoma.
